Nietes Continues Streak; Donaire and Pagara Score KO Victories

Manila, Philippines - WBO light flyweight champion Donnie ‘Ahas’ Nietes scored a TKO victory over Gilberto Parra at Pinoy Pride 30 D-Day at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Nietes made his sixth successful title defense and is now the longest reigning Filipino boxing world champion. His Mexican opponent went down in the eighth round via a vicious right from Nietes and wasn't able to answer the bell in the ninth as the ring physician ordered the stoppage of the fight. The win improved Nietes' record to 35-1-4 on 21 KOs.

Meanwhile, Filipino boxing superstar Nonito Donaire (34-3, 22 KOs) pummeled Brazilian William Prado in the second round as referee Bruce McTavish opted to stop the fight and prevent further damage on Prado. It was a comeback win for Donaire coming off a devastating loss from Nicholas Walters back in , which prompted him to go back down to junior featherweight division. With the impressive win, the 32-year old Donaire is looking for a title shot or a possible rematch with his 2013 tormentor Guillermo Rigondeaux.

Earlier, "Prince" Albert Pagara and AJ "Bazooka" Banal toppled their repective opponents to make it a successful day for Filipino boxers backed by ALA Promotions. A former title contender, Banal (33-2-1, 22 KOs) scored a unanimous decision win over Indonesian Junior Bajawa. IBF Inter-Continental Super Bantamweight champion Albert Pagara (23-0, 16 KOs) won via 5th round TKO as Rodolfo Hernandez opted stayed in his corner after suffering a hand injury. Pagara floored Hernandez in the opening round and continued to hammer him until the end of the fourth.
