Cycling enthusiasts gathered on an early hot weekend morning at the SM Mall of Asia Complex to take part in the Alaska Cycle Philippines. Kids ages 2 to 12 enjoyed the event on Saturday while adults took centerstage on Sunday.

An estimated 1,300 adults and 150 kids took part in this annual event organized by Cycle Asia, in partnership with Alaska and Sunrise Events. The event is part of Cycle Asia's network of premier cycling events across the region where participants enjoy the rare opportunity to ride on safe, closed public roads in major Asian cities.

The weekend of cycling action is part of Alaska's "Nutrition. Action. Champion." program in promoting healthy and active lifestyle through sports and milk consumption. It also encourages families to bond together and be part of the community that would help them become physically fit and healthy.

This year's race is divided in different categories. On the first day, children ages 2 to 5 took part in the 100/500 meter tricycle ride while kids ages 6 to 10 participated in the 5.5 kilometer Kids Ride category. A 30-minute Junior Challenge was available for young participants ages 10 to 12.

The following day, the participants can join the 20-km Community ride for people ages 10 and above, 20-km Foldies Community Ride for the growing community of folding bike cyclists, and the 40-km Challenge Ride for individuals and teams ages 14 and above. Some participants who did not own a bike were able to join the event by registering and paying 6,000 pesos to get a bike which they can bring home after the race.

All participants enjoyed a handful of goodies after the race which include an Alaska jersey, Alaska waterproof pouch, Alaska bag, a Rudy Project sunglasses (for kids only) and a beautifully crafted finisher's medal.

Alaska Cycle Philippines is organized by Sunrise Events, Inc., and sponsored by Alaska Milk Corporation, Subaru, 2GO, Gatorade, Garmin, f2P Sportswear, Intercare, Storybook.ph, Specialized, Rudy Project, Pioneer Insurance, Devant, Finisher's Pix and SM By the Bay.
