Alaska Celebrates World Milk Day

Now on its third year, Alaska Milk Corporation celebrated World Milk Day last May 31 at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds. Alaska gathered Filipino families to celebrate the benefits of having a healthy and active lifestyle through the World Milk Day Family Run.

The World Milk Day celebration is part of Alaska's continuing commitment to promote proper nutrition and active lifestyle through its "Nutrition. Action. Champion." program. Alaska reinforces the importance of drinking milk and participation in sports and outdoor play among Filipinos. It also encourages children and families nationwide to develop the habbit of taking nutritious breakfast through the "Alaska for Breakfast" campaign.

The event gathered more than 6,500 participants in four major cities in the country. Simulataneous fun run, milk drinking and zumba activities were held in Manila, Baguio, Cebu, and Davao. From babies driven in their strollers by their parents, to grandparents who showed that they still have it, the Alaska World Milk Day Family Run and Zumba gathered Filipunos from all walks of life, all in the name of nutrition and health.


With the "Alaska for Breakfast" campaign, breakfast stations and milk bars were set-up in all four venues which served all participants with pandesal, champorado and milk for free. The celebration culminated in a nationwide milk toast at exactly 6:00am, where participants simultaneously drank milk and made a pledge to a healthy and active lifestyle.

Leading the toast to the simultaneous drinking of milk is none other that Alaska Milk Corporation President and CEO, Wilfred Steven Uytengsu Jr. He stressed the importance of drinking milk and going outdoors to become active and physically fit.

Apart from promoting active and healthy lifestyle, Alaska also showed its commitment in uplifting lives of underprivileged children. This year, for every participant in the Family Run and Zumba events, Alaska donated a 1.8 kg milk can to Children’s Hour. Alaska's VP for Marketing Blen Fernando led the turnover ceremonies to Children's Hour.

The celebration of the third Alaska World Milk Day puts greated emphasis on the need to combat obesity and malnutrition in the country. The yearly observance of World Milk Day through the Alaska Family Run and the Alaska for Breakfast campaign helps reverse the prevailing nutritional problem, which could lead to serious health, economic, and social implications in adulthood.
